Girlboss Season 2 Cancelled

Girlboss Season 2 Cancelled

The first season of Girlboss was recently released but will the streaming service elect to renew or cancel the series starring Britt Robertson?

Was named one of the 50 best comedy TV shows on Netflix after the first season was released on April 21. I wasn’t sure what to make of the series before it was released. There were elements of feminism, fashion and the backdrop of San Francisco to sell the show, but I wasn’t sure if this was something that would play to my TV interests. Sure enough, I watched all 13 episodes on the release day and fell in love with the show and its star Sophia, played by Britt Robertson.

The show was created byKay Cannon who also serves as executive producer for the series that’s loosely based on Sophia Amoruso’s novel

The Girlboss Apologia Era Is Upon Us

. The novel tells the story of Sophia’s inspiration behind her Nasty Gal fashion brand and the moments and actions that led to it becoming a multi-million dollar enterprise. She began selling vintage clothing on eBay and became an overnight sensation. It wasn’t without some obstacles and challenges she had to overcome, but her perseverance paid off with the season 1 finale showing the launch of her own website and breaking away from eBay.

And if Netflix will renew the series or if it’ll be canceled. We haven’t heard an official statement about a renewal but I would be floored if it doesn’t return for at least one more season. It would be a massive disservice to pull the plug on the show after one season when fans are wanting more.

Will likely return in the spring of 2018. That’s just a projected timeline based on the track record of Netflix and their pattern of renewing shows.

Netflix: What Shows Will It Cancel Next?

As soon as we get word about the future of the series, we will be updating this post with the relevant information so you can bookmark this page and be the first to know when we know. It’s quite a mystery of whatever happened to the web comedy series “Girlboss.” It definitely lived up to its comedy genre, it had an interesting splash of cast members, and it was a mid-budget 29-minute episode. Given that Rotten Tomatoes rated this at a critical 32%, it still received positive reactions from the general audience for its wit and comedy. So the question remains: Whatever happened to “Girlboss” Season 2?

The fashion-femme series was the very first ongoing Comedy series to ever get canceled in the 15 comedies Netflix aired since 2015. Surprisingly, it seemed as if creator and executive producer Kay Cannon didn’t see this coming. In fact, she was even making comments on upcoming plans for the second season. Instead, it abruptly halted into total oblivion.

Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said at PGA’s Produced By Conference that there is a financial factor in play here. He says, “When I say that, a big expensive show for a huge audience is great. A big, expensive show for a tiny audience is hard to even in our model to make that work very long.” Apparently, Netflix is killing a few series off for budget reasons, and among those is “Girlboss.”

Tv Kritik/review:

The reasons stem from the original Sophia– the author of the book herself. Ever since the publicity of the series “Girlboss, ” author Sophia Amoruso shed light on her personal life as well. Here, her ‘transgressions’ reached the news outlets. Apparently, she has been charged for her questionable work ethic. Former employees had filed complaints about being fired for the reasons of pregnancy and occasional illnesses.

Unfortunately for the series, it made an impact on the audience’s emotional attachment to the character. There have been comments about how the real origin story made the series difficult to stomach, knowing how it went downhill.

Meanwhile, on the actual series, most reviews were particular with the apparent protagonist. Some critics have deducted that as hard as the story pushes the character Sophia as a strong, independent feminist– she wasn’t too far from leaning into the negative range.

Reviews have mentioned that fictional Sophia’s personality was, in plain terms: bad. In a nutshell, most reviews mention how the so-called “Independence” is in fact “Stubbornness, ” and “Quirky” is “Immature.”

To Kay Cannon’s defense, she reiterates the character’s imperfection. That when all hell’s loose, we grab on to human emotions that will protect us from falling into the pit: selfishness and greed. That’s who fictional Sophia is, apparently. But the reviews continue to comment otherwise, saying that “flawed” is far from “deplorable.”

When Netflix announced their adoption of Sophia Amoruso’s novel “Girlboss, ” it was during the successful reign in her business. That was in February 2016. But the following months after that, it underwent bankruptcy until the apparent Internet-Money-making sensation resigned as CEO and sold her website “NastyGal” to Boohoo.com.

Girlboss' Review: Netflix Show Portrays Nasty Gal Founder's Life

Unfortunately for executive producer Kay Cannon, the cast and the crew, there was a strong confusion in the message. The audience is unsure whether or not they should be rooting for her, or questioning her. And before they could even make the distinction, the budget didn’t cut for the second season. Whether or not there was an issue with how it was portrayed or the story itself was questionable, there still isn’t a second season. And we may assume there isn’t going to be one anytime soon.Movie Pilot suggested that a Girlboss comeback is highly likely as Netflix always renews their original series for at least a second season.Instagram/girlbossnetflix

When Girlboss season 1 was released in late April, the series was met with scathing reviews that particularly criticize Sophia Marlowe's (Britt Robertson) character. With all the bad feedback, did Netflix really cancel the reprisal?

Critics may have to sit around a little longer as Netflix just recently released the upcoming season's trailer. This can only mean that a reprisal is definitely coming soon.

Netflix 'girlboss' Canceled After One Season

Back in April when viewers were doubting if the show is going to make a comeback, Movie Pilot suggested that it is highly likely as Netflix has always renewed their original shows for at least a second season.

The show, written and produced by Sophia Amoruso herself, depicts the Nasty Gal founder's origins presented in a real loose manner. Viewers watched the former eBay queen go dumpster diving, getting an hernia, building a multimillion-dollar company, and going bankrupt, all of which happened before she turned 33.

The first years few years of Sophia's story were undoubtedly inspiring. She was a college dropout who realized her knack for vintage shopping can become a good business. Sophia started selling on eBay, and moved to her own website NastyGal.com in 2008.

In 2009, the company moved into a warehouse in Berkeley, but soon transferred to a larger space in Emeryville. A year after, Sophia took Nasty Gal to Los Angeles to accommodate the company's massive expansion.

Even though Nasty Gal began as an online empire, it later evolved into a clothing brand. The company enjoyed an initial runway success and in 2014, it opened its first physical store in Los Angeles. The store was stocked with Nasty Gal's own brand and apparel from various designers.

By 2016, Amoruso she became one of the youngest people to be sworn in Forbes' list of richest self-made women. She made her debut with an estimated net worth of $280 million.

So, what is there to hate with this success story? Most reviews highlight Sophia's attitude. Mashable, for instance, described her as the epitome of every quality that older people do not like about millennials. She remains rude even when she is at fault. She is also lazy and wants to be financially successful without working hard.

The real-life Sophia has also encountered several lawsuits. In June 2015, an ex-employee filed a lawsuit claiming that Nasty Gal was a horrible workplace for pregnant women. She alleged that the company illegally terminated her along with three other women. They were also refused four months of unpaid leave which the California law supposedly guarantee for new mothers.

Viewers were so enraged with Sophia's attitude that even Robertson suffered heavy criticism. In an interview with Bustle, the Girlboss star explained, I think that's sort of the point to the show, to be honest with you. Because she is unlikable, it's a part of what the story is. She can't make her way in life because nobody understands her story or gets who she is.
