The first season of Girlboss was recently released but will the streaming service elect to renew or cancel the series starring Britt Robertson?
Was named one of the 50 best comedy TV shows on Netflix after the first season was released on April 21. I wasn’t sure what to make of the series before it was released. There were elements of feminism, fashion and the backdrop of San Francisco to sell the show, but I wasn’t sure if this was something that would play to my TV interests. Sure enough, I watched all 13 episodes on the release day and fell in love with the show and its star Sophia, played by Britt Robertson.

The show was created byKay Cannon who also serves as executive producer for the series that’s loosely based on Sophia Amoruso’s novel
Fantasy Island: Katie Leclerc Guest Stars In
. The novel tells the story of Sophia’s inspiration behind her Nasty Gal fashion brand and the moments and actions that led to it becoming a multi-million dollar enterprise. She began selling vintage clothing on eBay and became an overnight sensation. It wasn’t without some obstacles and challenges she had to overcome, but her perseverance paid off with the season 1 finale showing the launch of her own website and breaking away from eBay.
And if Netflix will renew the series or if it’ll be canceled. We haven’t heard an official statement about a renewal but I would be floored if it doesn’t return for at least one more season. It would be a massive disservice to pull the plug on the show after one season when fans are wanting more.
Will likely return in the spring of 2018. That’s just a projected timeline based on the track record of Netflix and their pattern of renewing shows.
Girlboss' Sophia Amorusa Launches Linkedin Alternative For Women
As soon as we get word about the future of the series, we will be updating this post with the relevant information so you can bookmark this page and be the first to know when we know.Girlboss landed on Netflix on the 21st of April 2017 and depicts (rather loosely) the events that led to the creation of Nasty Gal. The series first season has gained the approval of most and already fans are looking for information regarding a second season. We’re here to reassure you that it’s almost definitely going to happen and we can give you some insights as to what’s next for the show.
Just for a quick recap, the series which launched with 13 episodes, tells the origin story of Sophia Amoruso. Sophia is an entrepreneur who was behind the Nasty Gal business that spun clothes in the early days before becoming a global fashion brand. The series follows the same plot as the Girl Boss autobiography but twisted a few sections.
Although season 2 has only been alluded to, we fully suspect that Netflix will announce that season 2 has been renewed within the next few months. The reason behind this is that the show is originally made to cover all of the events in the book and we’ve only really just scraped the surface. As we’ll explain below, we think there’s room for another two seasons at least in the Girlboss series.
Girlboss Tv Show: Netflix Is Turning Sophia Amoruso's *#girlboss* Into A Show
Let’s just recap as to where we are in regards to timelines. At the end of season 1, Sophia is launching the fresh new website and moving away from eBay. Really we’re just at the beginning and if you thought it was a rough ride to this point, there’s plenty more where that came from.

At this point in time, we think that Netflix may be able to get two or three seasons total out of the story and it eventually doesn’t work out well for Nasty Gal as you may have heard that just after Netflix signed the deal to make the show, the brand filed for bankruptcy. That means we’ve got anywhere between 5 to 10 years left to cover on the show.
In the next season, expect to see the site really starting to pick up steam thanks to innovative marketing techniques and the brand cut loose from eBay. We also expect to see the brand move into its own warehouse space and even it being added to the index portfolio.
Badass Quotes From 'girlboss' That Made Us Want To Hustle
The all important question, what is the release date for season 2? Although it’ll partly depend on when and ultimately if it does get renewed, we think that Netflix will push out a new season for the next few years on a consistent annual basis. That means you can expect season 2 to land probably in April/May 2018. It may also be the case that Netflix decides to split the season into two halves like it does with its other hits such as Black Mirror and The Ranch although there’s no evidence for that right now.
Founder of What's on Netflix and based in Norwich in the United Kingdom, Kasey has been tracking the comings and goings of the Netflix library for a decade having started the site in 2013. Contact: [email protected]It’s quite a mystery of whatever happened to the web comedy series “Girlboss.” It definitely lived up to its comedy genre, it had an interesting splash of cast members, and it was a mid-budget 29-minute episode. Given that Rotten Tomatoes rated this at a critical 32%, it still received positive reactions from the general audience for its wit and comedy. So the question remains: Whatever happened to “Girlboss” Season 2?

The fashion-femme series was the very first ongoing Comedy series to ever get canceled in the 15 comedies Netflix aired since 2015. Surprisingly, it seemed as if creator and executive producer Kay Cannon didn’t see this coming. In fact, she was even making comments on upcoming plans for the second season. Instead, it abruptly halted into total oblivion.
Girlboss Cancelled, No Season 2 At Netflix
Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said at PGA’s Produced By Conference that there is a financial factor in play here. He says, “When I say that, a big expensive show for a huge audience is great. A big, expensive show for a tiny audience is hard to even in our model to make that work very long.” Apparently, Netflix is killing a few series off for budget reasons, and among those is “Girlboss.”
The reasons stem from the original Sophia– the author of the book herself. Ever since the publicity of the series “Girlboss, ” author Sophia Amoruso shed light on her personal life as well. Here, her ‘transgressions’ reached the news outlets. Apparently, she has been charged for her questionable work ethic. Former employees had filed complaints about being fired for the reasons of pregnancy and occasional illnesses.
Unfortunately for the series, it made an impact on the audience’s emotional attachment to the character. There have been comments about how the real origin story made the series difficult to stomach, knowing how it went downhill.

Netflix Cancelled 'girlboss' Because It Didn't Move The Needle
Meanwhile, on the actual series, most reviews were particular with the apparent protagonist. Some critics have deducted that as hard as the story pushes the character Sophia as a strong, independent feminist– she wasn’t too far from leaning into the negative range.
Reviews have mentioned that fictional Sophia’s personality was, in plain terms: bad. In a nutshell, most reviews mention how the so-called “Independence” is in fact “Stubbornness, ” and “Quirky” is “Immature.”
To Kay Cannon’s defense, she reiterates the character’s imperfection. That when all hell’s loose, we grab on to human emotions that will protect us from falling into the pit: selfishness and greed. That’s who fictional Sophia is, apparently. But the reviews continue to comment otherwise, saying that “flawed” is far from “deplorable.”
Girlboss Season 2: Will Netflix Renew The Britt Robertson Series?
When Netflix announced their adoption of Sophia Amoruso’s novel “Girlboss, ” it was during the successful reign in her business. That was in February 2016. But the following months after that, it underwent bankruptcy until the apparent Internet-Money-making sensation resigned as CEO and sold her website “NastyGal” to Boohoo.com.

Unfortunately for executive producer Kay Cannon, the cast and the crew, there was a strong confusion in the message. The audience is unsure whether or not they should be rooting for her, or questioning her. And before they could even make the distinction, the budget didn’t cut for the second season. Whether or not there was an issue with how it was portrayed or the story itself was questionable, there still isn’t a second season. And we may assume there isn’t going to be one anytime soon.
