And Charlize Theron — this is definitely one subscribers have been waiting for. The story of a female eBay seller that grows into a successful business of its own is not only inspiring, but it really happened.
Is based on Nasty Gal and its founder, Sophia Amoruso. Unfortunately, though, Nasty Gal filed for bankruptcy last year and Amoruso moved on to other ventures. But can you shop on Nasty Gal? The store

Nasty Gal began as an eBay account when founder, Sophia Amoruso, was 22. She sold thrifted vintage pieces and upped the price, making both a name for herself and a ton of cash. Two years later, in 2008, she decided to start her own store for a few reasons. As Amoruso explained in her 2014 memoir, #Girlboss, she started getting dragged online by unhappy customers. What's more, eBay actually suspended her because she put a link to her future site in feedback for shoppers. With 60, 000 MySpace friends by her side, she started nastygalvintage.com. It eventually became nastygal.com, but at the time the domain was still owned by a porn site.

Despite getting burned by eBay, Amoruso did just fine. By the time she was 30 — merely eight years after starting the original shop — Nasty Gal was valued at $350 million. Unfortunately, though, the CEO was not immune from failure. Despite its high evaluation, the company struggled. In 2015, Amoruso stepped down as CEO and contributed some of her own money to the company. With lawsuits and layoffs plaguing the business, eventually it went bankrupt at the tail end of 2016. This February, Nasty Gal sold to U.K. retailer Boohoo for $20 million according to
Profile said that a core team of original Nasty Gal employees will remain in Los Angeles. What's more, Boohoo said that the brand will continue to produce clothing, shoes, and accessories. This is a distinctive brand with a fiercely loyal customer base, Carol Kane, Boohoo Group joint chief executive officer, told WWD, and we are committed to preserving that as we move forward into a new chapter. So despite its hardships, girlbosses all over the world can trust that they will still be able to shop Nasty Gal.

Detroit real-estate developer Bedrock has announced the launch of Girl Boss Fashions, a locally owned women’s apparel boutique pop-up shop that has made the transition to full brick-and-mortar at 111 Monroe St. northeast of Campus Martius Park.
“Entrepreneurs like Girl Boss Fashions’ founder Tenisia Evans are the heart and soul of Detroit’s style and culture scene, ” says Ivy Greaner, COO of Bedrock. “Bedrock is fortunate to work alongside and support Tenisia’s entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to the city as the Girl Boss brand is not only thriving but laying the groundwork for further small business success.”

“Girl Boss Fashions is committed now more than ever to empowering women, supporting our community, and rooting our brand deep into the City of Detroit, ” says Evans. “As a native Detroit entrepreneur, I am ecstatic to expand Girl Boss Fashions into a permanent brick and mortar downtown with the support of the team at Bedrock.”
Evans started Girl Boss Fashions in 2016 after struggling to find clothing that both fit her well and that she felt comfortable and confident wearing. It was initially a platform to sell her customized, inspirational bling T-shirts, and Evans quickly found success and launched an online shop and her first store in 2017 on the east side of Detroit.
Girl Boss Fashions has its original shop in Detroit on Kelly Road, and has since expanded to Lakeside Mall, Partridge Creek, and Macomb Mall. Now with these four other shops open, Evans is ready to grow the Girl Boss brand.

“Bedrock provides a cyclical system of support for local brands and startups. Entrepreneurs can bring an idea or initial product to our Downtown Detroit Markets, where they are provided with a platform to introduce their wares to a diverse market, ” says Greaner.

“From there, we offer a variety of pop-up locations, where entrepreneurs are given more space and marketing support to grow their brands. Finally, for those looking for a long-term downtown presence, we work to place them in brick-and-mortar storefronts among our busiest retail hubs.”
