Now, look, there is nothing wrong with wanting more money. I want to say that, because it’s easy to feel conflicted about this. We all need money to live, eat, be warm and comfortable, and to have access to health services, but often, especially when you’re self-employed, there can be times when there’s a lot more month left at the end of the money.
Fuck, I need to make sure the sales I make this week cover the mortgage… no-one’s buying… what am I doing wrong?!
All perfectly coiffed, billowing ombre hair and perfectly manicured nails, legs crossed at the ankles as she sits barefoot on an impossibly large, glossy white kitchen island, white jeans strategically ripped at the knee, a rose coloured chiffon shirt hinting at her femininity, as she laughs off-camera into the abyss of her open plan beachfront mini-mansion that Pinterest threw up on.

“Hey business owner, 10K months used to be so out for reach for me.” she seemingly titters melodically in her caption, “I used to struggle to buy toilet roll and would steal them from my local KFC instead, and make toilet roll sandwiches for my only meal each day. I only had one arm, and I had to fight zombies, and my debt was larger than the GDP of Burundi. I was just like you — EXCEPT WAY WORSE OFF.”
“And then I created a special formula that saw me magnetise £10K a month into my business. No more debt, no more toilet roll sandwiches, no more zombies. My arm even grew back!”
She continues; “By now, I bet you thought you’d be further ahead. By now, you thought the money would be rolling in. By now, you’re probably wondering why I’m starting every sentence with ‘by now’, and soon you’ll realise that by saying ‘by now’ enough, you’ll be immediately triggered to ‘buy now’ because#shitNLP4lyf”

“Just look at my client Janet Schmanet. She went from licking kitchen floors for crumbs and regurgitating that food for her kids each night, to a five figure month in a WEEK after implementing my formula!”
“All you need is my formula, and to invest in yourself because spending money you don’t have on yourself is basically the same as saying ‘I believe in me’. My One-Step to 10K Months is OPEN. Buy now! It’s £10, 000.”
In case you’re wondering why you “haven’t yet made it” because of some arbitrary income number in your business, then heed this:

Business is a risk. BUSINESS IS A DAMN RISK. There are no guarantees, but there’s work, there’s pride, there’s highs and lows, there’s bone-crushing boredom and loneliness, there’s constantly having to motivate yourself to do shit you don’t want to, and there’s the most growth you’ll ever experience.
But do not underestimate the filters you have to run your life through. Primary child carer for your schoolchild? You get 195 five- or six-hour working days in the UK per year. Have a baby or toddler and no (or very limited) childcare? Caring for someone with extra needs? Perhaps you’re disabled, or dealing with mental or physical health issues?
Making 10K a month — and not just in a one-off situation, I’m talking with a level of vague sustainability (because business is still a risk) — takes time, effort, energy. And ironically, it often takes MONEY as well. Think childcare, having a cleaner, hiring an assistant to help with your email or social media or marketing.

That 10K a month? It’s turnover. After you’ve paid for all the business expenses and debt repayments and affiliate fees and staff costs? More like £3K profit.
Not that there’s anything wrong with 3K, and sure, you can start to scale beyond that. But “10K months” is never the full picture.

We’re fobbed off with “just raise your prices!” or “Just create a course and sell it!”. These aren’t creating sustainable businesses. They’re tactics and hacks that can support a strategy — BUT THEY AREN’T THE STRATEGY. And honestly, there’s only so many times you can raise your prices if you aren’t able to market effectively, articulate competency and actually sell to the people who you want to buy from you.

You don’t need to buy courses describing how to use your special spirit animal totem finance archetype, but you DO need to check your bank account more than once a week, cancel all those shitty direct debits that don’t serve you, stop buying shit you don’t need, automatically save money each month for tax AND for your future, and for the love of all things holy, pay off your credit card and debts.
You need to look at what you DO earn, and where your money ACTUALLY goes. You need to figure out what you WANT to earn based on your own lifestyle,
You need to figure out the stuff you were told as a kid about money. If you have the luxury of a therapist, talk about it there. If you don’t, write about it, or talk to a trusted friend about it. And then PRACTISE DIFFERENT BELIEFS.

You need to have control over your finances. Hiring a bookkeeper will do way more for your financial hygiene than a six-week “how to manifest money by magic” course can ever do (manifesting is not magic, it's focus).

And hiring a trusted, recommended mentor to give you some one-off decent business advice that you actually go away and implement, will do way more for your business than a 12-month “Make 5 Figures a Month” online group coaching program can ever promise.
But remember that a five figure month is not the be-all and end-all. It’s our time to redefine what success means, and YES, be paid what we’re worth, YES, not feel like we need to struggle each month financially, but not because the Girlboss Gang said it was necessary in order to sit with them.
